2024 PDV Workshop

NNSS, North Las Vegas on October 14 – 15, 2024

Aliante Hotel and Casino on October 16 – 17, 2024

The 2024 PDV Workshop will be held October 14 - 17, 2024, and hosted by Nevada National Security Sites (NNSS) in North Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

Photonic Doppler Velocimetry (PDV) is a vital diagnostic in studies of the shock compression of condensed matter, high explosives, and other dynamic phenomenon. The workshop will be comprised of two separate sessions over four days: A hands-on workshop (limited participation), and a plenary session (registration required).

The Plenary Session will be held at the Aliante Casino and Hotel, Wednesday – Thursday, October 16 – 17, 2024. The plenary will cover new developments and applications in PDV, as well as associated diagnostics. Associated diagnostics include, for example, optical ranging, time of arrival diagnostics, various diagnostics to measure ejecta, and dynamic radiance/temperature measurements. We welcome contributions on these topics including hardware design, analysis algorithms, and experimental results. Contributions on works-in-progress and from students are encouraged. We anticipate offering a poster session in addition to the traditional talks. To submit either an oral or poster presentation, please email title, abstract, and presentation preference (poster or oral) to the conference organizers (contact below). We will do our best to honor preferences while balancing the agenda.

The Hands-on Workshop will include a special two-day class on PDV targeted for people new to the field, with preference given to universities. There will be two simultaneously-ran tracks to the Hands-On Workshop, one directed at the diagnostic architecture and fielding, and one on data analysis. Both tracks will be held at the Nevada National Security Sites (NNSS) on Monday – Tuesday, October 14 – 15th. Participation in these classes will be limited. To indicate interest in consideration for this class, check the appropriate box upon registering for the conference. There is no additional fee. The classes will be taught by experts in the field. The diagnostic architecture and fielding class is expected to cover topics such as fundamental concepts behind PDV, different PDV architectures, practical considerations in fielding PDV, building a simple PDV, fielding demonstration, simple data analysis, and more. The data analysis class will focus on current techniques, software demonstration/instruction, data examples, ejecta discussions, situational guidelines, and more.

There will be no classified session for the 2024 PDV Workshop. If you have a talk planned or prepared for such a venue, please reach out to the conference organizers (contact below) to learn about adjacent opportunities.
